This is a CMS/HCFA requirement.
- If you now transmit to NHIC in California or New England
(Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont) and you have been
subscribing to Stratford's software support, you should be able to
comply with this requirement. The password requirement begins
October 1, 1997. Since the password must change every 30 days, the
first password change notice will occur approximately November 1,
1997.
- Check
your monthly statement. There should be a line item that says:
Medicare EDI (or similar wording). If you do not see this wording,
you should immediately fax a notice to Stratford at
206.984.3846
and say that you to make the NHIC password change.
- If you have upgraded to Windows 95, you may use either of the
two installation programs that are available from Stratford. You
should notify Stratford that you have Windows 95, however, since
we have an installer that is specific for Windows 95 and Windows
NT. This installer will save you the hassle of manually
configuring things. Also, it is prettier. It is the first step on
the way to a pure Windows 95 program, coming in the future.
- On Friday evening (9/19/97) we loaded the final (hopefully)
code to this web site. As soon as it is approved by NHIC New
England and NHIC California we will begin shipping it to everyone
who needs it.
- We have thousands of licensed users to upgrade to this version
in October 1997. There are many customers who cannot follow
printed instructions and will call for help. This volume of calls
will be added to our present volume, so all we can say is that we
will do our best. The software fix will go out first to those people who
subscribe to software maintenance on a regular basis. Those people
who are requesting the fix only, will receive it as soon
as possible, but after all subscribers have it and working
satisfactorily.
- If you are "computer literate", you have Windows 95 and you
think that you can download software to your computer from our web site, please
send an email to
support@stratfordsoftware.com. You will receive priority
service. There will be one very large file, about 5 megabytes. You
must download this file onto your hard disk. This is a "self
exploding" file that will create an installation directory on your
computer. You must use the explorer or START | RUN to find this
installation directory and the SETUP.EXE command. You can install
the software by clicking on SETUP. The installation program is like
most Microsoft software installations.
- Technical information regarding this software:
- Stratford has devised a scripting mechanism that can change
your password automatically. No operator intervention is required
if you have PC Plus version 2.x, 3, 4, or 32. The new password
will meet all the (known) CMS requirements, (1) that the software
vendor (Stratford) will have no way to know what the password is
(2) The provider will be the only person that will have any access
to the password after the first change notice.
- Specifically, this means that even if you send your ID and
password to Stratford and we build your templates; after 30 days,
we will have no way to know what your password is. The change will
happen automatically and even the provider will not know that it
was changed. The Stratford program has an EDI maintenance window
that the provider can use to access the password if required. Only
someone with physical access to the provider computer will have
any way to learn what the password is.
