Vista installation -special procedures that are necessary if you use the old (no longer supported) dos version.Note: this does not apply to 64bit Vista. Microsoft has decided to provide NO support for dos programs in 64bit Vista. We do not understand this decision but, like you, we are stuck with it. We are aware of some 3rd party utilities that will allow you to run the Stratford dos program on 64bit Vista computer. We have no way to determine whether or not this could cause problems with other programs that you may use and so we cannot support those utilities. In the past, the Stratford program was able to make these changes (in most cases) without the user having to do anything. Unfortunately, Microsoft put in more 'security features' to make your computer more difficult to use. Here is how you can increase the number of 'files' in the config.nt file. In Windows Vista, in order to modify any system-protected files you must take ownership of the file.
1. Double Click the 'Computer' icon on the desktop. 2. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32 3. Right-click on Config.nt and select properties:
Click on the Security tab and select the Advanced button:
Select the Owner tab:
Click on the Edit... button: Select the current user who will be taking ownership of the item and click OK.
If ownership has been successfully changed, you will get the following message:
Now you can edit Config.nt using Notepad and change to Files=99.
