Vista installation - (also may occur with WinXP)

special procedures that may be necessary if you have a network with Windows based printer.

Problem: You have a network that works fine. All the workstations are able to print on a printer that is connected to a Windows based workstation. Now you buy a new computer that has Microsoft's operating system they call 'Vista' installed. When you try to connect to the printer you see a message like this:

"The current printer driver is not compatible with a policy enabled on your computer that blocks Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 kernel-mode drivers"

This message is caused by another one of the Microsoft 'security measures'.

Here is a workaround:

1. Click Start
2. Click Run...
3. type in gpedit.msc
4. Press the Enter key
5. Locate these keys:

a) Computer Configuration
b) Administrative Templates
c) Printers
d) Disallow installations of printers using kernel-mode drivers << change to 'Disabled'

Reboot the machine and start the program.
